How to get to Birmingham airport - Birmingham International Airport, located at the centre of England, is easy to get to, being served by a range of intercity, regional and local rail services. Trains call at Birmingham International Interchange, only 500 metres from the Airport Passenger Terminals and linked by the automatic SkyRail system. The Airport is also at the centre of the UK's motorway network and only 1 mile (1.6 km) from junction 6 of the M42

By Train - Birmingham International Airport is at the heart of the UK's rail network and served by over 200 trains per day.

Birmingham International Interchange

Linked to the Airport Passenger Terminals by SkyRail, the rail station is situated on the West Coast Main Line which has a network of fast and frequent regional and intercity rail services operated by Central, Virgin and Silverlink Trains.

The FREE SkyRail connects Birmingham International Rail Station & Interchange to the Airport Passenger Terminals. SkyRail operates about every 2 minutes when the rail station is open with a journey time of less than 2 minutes. Further technical information on SkyRail.

Going to Birmingham City Centre?

There are 6-7 trains per hour during the day between Birmingham International Interchange and Birmingham New Street station, which is located in the heart of the city centre. Journey time is 10-15 minutes. Trains are less frequent during the evening and at weekends. There are no trains during the night. Tickets to Birmingham New Street are valid on all trains.

Central Trains

Provide local services to the Airport on behalf of Centro. Timetable and fares information can be obtained from 0870 608 2 608. All tickets for Centro services must be purchased prior to boarding the train. Penalty fares apply if you board the train without a valid ticket. Central Trains also operate a network of local and regional trains centred on Birmingham New Street Station.

Virgin Trains

Provide direct services to major destinations throughout the UK including a half-hourly service to London Euston with journey times of approximately 90 minutes. An even wider range of Virgin services operates from Birmingham New Street station.

Silverlink Train Services

Provide a service to intermediate stations en-route to London Euston including Rugby, Northampton, Milton Keynes and Hemel Hempstead. Lower fares are available on these services to London Euston but the journey time is approximately 120 minutes.

Chiltern Railways

Provide services from Solihull rail station to Warwick, Leamington and Banbury en-route to London Marylebone station. The 966/Airport Link bus connects the Airport to Solihull station every 30 minutes. Chiltern Railways do not serve Birmingham International Interchange.

Network Rail

Provides nation-wide rail timetable information through their website and national timetable. Alternatively call National Rail Enquiries on 08457 48 49 50.

Birmingham Airport Bus Services

Local buses link the Airport to the surrounding district and are provided by a number of operators. All buses stop outside the Passenger Terminals. Below is a guide to the main services. Services 900 and 966 operate from early morning to late at night but there are no overnight services. Please note that Travel West Midlands operate an exact fare policy and the driver cannot give change. All services also call at Birmingham International Interchange for connections with rail services and to serve the National Exhibition Centre. In addition bus 73 serves Birmingham Business Park and bus 676 serves Marston Green from the Interchange only.

Birmingham Airport Coach Services

National Express operate long distance coach services linking the Airport to a number of cities and also provide inter-airport Flightlink coaches. A summary of the main services is given below. Passengers are advised to book long distance coach services in advance. Digbeth Coach Station in Birmingham City Centre is a hub of the National Express network with services to most parts of the UK. By Car

Birmingham International Airport is on the A45 Coventry Road, 8 miles (12km) east of Birmingham City Centre and close to junction 6 of the M42. There are direct connections to the M1, M5, M6 and M40. The Airport is sign-posted from motorways and major roads and is marked on all good quality road maps.
