Low-cost airline bmi has announced that it will be running a new service from Heathrow to Lyon.

Flights will run four times a week, Monday to Friday, to France’s second biggest city and the major ski destination of Lyon.

Internet fares will start from just £29 one way including taxes and charges, cutting existing operator fares by 43 percent, says bmi, on a return fare basis.

Customers booking flights on the internet might also like to consider booking airport hotel accommodation at the same time. Staying in an airport hotel means that people aren’t left rushing around trying to make their flights, as they are already at the airport.

And with the extra savings on flights that bmi is offering, adding a hotel room to the cost of a trip won’t make much of a difference to the usual price.

'As well as adding new long - haul services from Heathrow we are at the same time extending the number of European destinations we serve. We have every confidence that our new services to Lyon will prove to be extremely popular,' said bmi chief executive, Nigel Turner.

The new flights will bring the number of short and long-haul destinations served by bmi from Heathrow to 23.
