Sofitel, the brand of Accor Hotels, has announced that it is to open two new airport hotels at London Gatwick and London Heathrow.

The current Le Meridian hotel at London Gatwick is to be re-branded into a Sofitel, and will undergo a 'major facelift', says Accor.

The makeover will include the addition of a Zen garden, a library, and three exclusive restaurants, writes e-TravelBlackboard.com.

A cocktail bar, Kua, will give a 'hint of the Orient' and the Gatwick oriental restaurant will continue the eastern theme, serving dishes from the Far East.

Sofitel Gatwick, located at the north terminal, is marketing itself as 'luxury international hotel', with extensive business facilities, a gym, indoor pool and spa.

A Sofitel London Heathrow is to open in 2008 at terminal 5, and will offer guests 600 bedrooms, with the executive and deluxe rooms equipped with Sofitel's 'MyBed'.

Accommodation will be spread out over three levels, and the hotel will boast corporate meeting and events suites, for convenient international conferences.
