Local businesses have been the major beneficiaries at Stansted Airport's fifth annual "Meet the Buyers" event, which concluded at the Radisson SAS Hotel yesterday.

The event was designed to bring small and medium-sized local businesses access to companies based at Stansted airport, with the chance to market their goods.

Estimates forecast that around 200 local suppliers and 30 buyers booked in to attend, after previous events enabled companies to generate £10 million of new businesses.

Stansted Airport managing director Terry Morgan identified the event within a general aim "to share the benefits of having a successful international airport with local businesses and our neighbours in the community".

He added: "We spend a great deal of time speaking to business leaders, to better understand how Stansted Airport can continue to play an important role in driving the local economy forward."

The "Meet the Buyers" event has allowed Stansted's management to showcase their major programme of development.

Business is expected to boom still further with the unveiling of new plans for a second runway last December, expected to increase the existing figure of 22 million passengers a year, to between 63 million and 76 million by 2030.

Local airport hotels such as Radissons are expected to face increased demand, as Stansted works with local businesses on its programme of expansion.

Customers thinking of flying from Stansted should book ahead online to secure the best airport hotel deals.
