A new service for flights between Stansted and Jersey has been announced this week.

Low cost airline Atlantic Express will begin flying twice daily from the island on May 27th, using 68-seat planes at a one way cost of £39.99, excluding taxes and charges.

Jersey officials expressed hopes that the service will open up new opportunities for Channel Islanders to explore the UK and Europe, with Stansted offering a choice of 150 low fare onward flights.

Welcoming the move, Jersey director of tourism David de Carteret said: 'The introduction of Stansted opens up a major hub to international travel for our visitors and local residents.'

The news comes in a week when the boom in airport travel was identified as one of the key social trends of our time, with a report by the Office of National Statistics highlighting how gateways such as Stansted had increased the number of travellers from 43 million to 167 million since 1980.

With new flights and expanded services on the horizons, customers should be sure to book online for the best deals in airport hotels linked to the Stansted gateway.
