Further delays at the UK's airports including Heathrow, Gatwick and Stanstead, are expected this Easter and through the summer holidays. The chief executive of BAA, Stephen Nelson, said that he could not guarantee that the airports would not see the return of the huge marquees used in 2006.
Mr Nelson said that although BAA would be employing an extra 1,400 security guards by this summer, half of which will be employed at Heathrow, they would have little impact on the 185,000 travellers using Heathrow until the new terminal opens next year.
Delays are expected at Gatwick the Easter due to the difficulty in getting extra security guards to work.
