Irish budget carrier Ryanair has just opened a new base at Bristol Airport to serve as a hub for twelve of its newly launched routes. The new schedule will include twelve brand new destinations, including such European cities as Derry, Knock, Porto, Riga, Milan and Budapest in its first outings.

The second round of flights wil see Ryanair branching its routes to Katowice, Rzesnow, Dinard, Poznan and Bratislava. Additional flights coming up will be the winter ski destinations of Salzburg and Turin starting in December.

Next spring, three French destinations will be added to the roster of the Bristol fleet starting in May. This new host of flights is expected to bring Ryanair 1 million extra passengers within the first year of operations on the 21 new flights.

Choosing Bristol as the location for the new hub is no small undertaking. The city is a popular place for budget travellers, and Ryanair's competition, easyJet already operated numerous flight routes from Bristol, second in traffic only to its London base.
