For the third year in a row, TripAdvisor users have voted an airport hotel near Gatwick as one of the dirtiest places to stay while traveling.

The Europa Gatwick was ranked fourth in a list of the the top ten dirtiest places to stay according to the poll.

The airport hotel was superseded in its dirtiness by the Nanford Guest House in Oxford, which won top prize.

Those who participated in the poll claim that the Nanford is "horrendous", "squalid", "total and utter dump", "dirty, smelly and should be shut down".

One traveler wrote extensively about his experience in the $130 a night Europa Gatwick. "The most disgusting filthy hotel I have ever stayed in! We booked for the way out and return from our holiday, but canceled the return,” the user wrote.

"When we complained of the filth everywhere the manager AGREED! There is no need for dirtiness. I do not expect miracles in a heavy through traffic hotel, and tiredness of decor is to be expected, but... the rooms were dirty, as was the bar area and the restaurant. NEVER again."

A total of four Europa hotels made the top ten list including the Britannia Stockport, Greater Manchester, the Britannia Birmingham and the Britannia Country House Hotel, Didsbury, Manchester.
