Properties will be built under the brands Holiday Inn Hotels & Resorts, Holiday Inn Suites and InterContinental Hotels & Resorts. The addition of these hotels and resorts will add nearly 1,000 IHG rooms in Korea and effectively doubling the number of IHG-branded hotels in the market.

There will be three zones in the planned development - Golf and Villa, Resort Village and Winter Sports zones. At the InterContinental Alpensia Pyeong Chang Resort there will be 236 guest rooms, 182 at the Holiday Inn Alpensia Pyeong Chang Resort and 551 at the four-tower Holiday Inn Alpensia Pyeong Chang Suites. The anticipated completion date for all three properties is the end of the second quarter of 2009.

The resorts and suites are well-located in Pyeongchang district of the Gangwon–do Province, a well-established skiing destination, and just two and a half hours east of Seoul and Incheon and Gimpo airports, by car. When the new expressway construction is completed in 2009, the drive time will be reduced to one and a half hours.

The shorter drive will enhance the appeal of the resort properties to the 10 million residents of Seoul, of which 2.5 per cent are foreign nationals.

The Gimpo airport boasts flight connecting Seoul with numerous domestic and international airports, including Tokyo’s Haneda and Shanghai’s Honggiao. Incheon is a major international air hub.
