The online travel operator is extending its Travel Agencies Affiliate Programme (TAAP) to agents in Britain because it has been shown that some travellers still prefer using an agent to book their holidays.

The vice president for Expedia EMEA, Mikael Andersson, said: “The TAAP programme in Italy has been extremely successful and it is for this reason we have extended it to the UK.”

Andersson added: “There are still a significant number of consumers who prefer to book their holiday through a traditional high street shop and TAAP provides the perfect way for us to reach this new and previously unexplored customer base.”

An external vendor will provide the point of contact between Expedia and the affiliate agents, and will also provide a dedicated team for support.

Agents will have access to a specially-designated sign-in page on the Expedia website, from which they will be able to access all flights, hotels and car hire services on offer..

All agents who join the programme by the end of this year will have the membership fee waived, and they will earn enhanced commissions on all online bookings made before 31 March 2009.
