The only drawback is that they will be staying in accommodation that is normally the choice of families and business travellers on a tight budget.

The deal promoted by the budget chain is just the latest in a number of special offers made by retailers and travel operators aimed at boosting spending as consumers cut back due to the recession.

All a couple needs to do is present their marriage certificate and they will receive two nights’ accommodation at the special rate, and in addition, one night’s dinner, breakfast on the two mornings, a hamper of spa treatments from Boots, a bottle of sparkling wine from ASDA and either a basket of strawberries or a box of chocolates.

In case the newlyweds forgot to pack their pyjamas, they will also receive nightwear from discount chain Primark – all as part of the £58 package.

Premier Inn’s spokesman, Steve Conway, commented: “Our package will give newly-weds an enjoyable and romantic break that won’t break the bank.”

Nine Premier Inn properties are taking part in the honeymoon package offer, and all are located near romantic spots, according to the spokesman for the hotel chain. Two of the properties are the Poole North hotel, located approximately 14 miles from Lulworth Cove and the Premier Inn in Hull city centre - 25 miles away from Spurn Head in Easington.
