40 new Starwood properties in Middle East and North Africa

The news comes via a press release issued this week, which said that the growth effort would increase the company’s presence in the region by almost 60 per cent as new facilities join some 70 Starwood hotels already operating in the region.

Frits van Paasschen, president and chief executive of Starwood Hotels & Resorts said in a statement that the growth comes in spite of ongoing economic and political uncertainty in the area, noting that his organisation has continued to see encouraging demand in the region.

He went on to say that the Middle East and North Africa are key areas for the company’s expansion strategy and that the region was the second-biggest location for growth behind Mainland China.

Company officials say that the firm has chosen dozens of key locations in for the new properties over the last 18 months. Among the forthcoming properties in the region is the Westin brand’s debut hotel in Abu Dhabi, the Westin Abu Dhabi Golf Resort & Spa. Meanwhile, Le Méridien will launch its first Algerian property with via the opening of the Le Méridien Oran.
