Singer Rihanna was evacuated from a London hotel early yesterday morning.

The 24 year-old pop star was reportedly awoken at 6am after the facility’s lift shaft ignited, prompting hotel staff to evacuate all 300 guests to the street in front of the building.

Numerous fire crews responded to the scene at the Corinthia hotel in Whitehall Place – around 10 according to reports, whilst Rihanna tweeted to her fans “Roamin da streets since 6am! Fyah in da telly #evacuationlife”. The Barbados-born diva also later posted a picture of herself in a London cab shortly after the fire broke out.

According to the London Fire Brigade, there were no injuries in the ordeal. A spokesperson from the Corinthia hotel said to reporters that the building suffered minor damage to one lift shaft as well as to the lift system on the 7th storey.

The incident came just a few hours after Rihanna had closed out Sunday night of the Hackney Weekend festival. Jay-Z made an unannounced appearance during the set, which included a number of Rihanna's major hits including ‘Only Girl in the World’, which opened the set. She is scheduled to play at Wireless Festival in Hyde Park next weekend.
