Officials announced that a new Bloc brand hotel property will be opened at Gatwick airport next year.

According to Bloc founder Rob Morgan, the new 244-guestroom property is to “revolutionise” the experience of staying at an onsite airport hotel.

Officials said that the facility is to be housed in a renovated version of the Norfolk House, a former office building at the airport located within the main section of the South Terminal near the security checkpoint and departure gates.

Mr Morgan said that the new rooms will be “intelligently designed” and will offer facilities typical of five-star properties. However, he said that the property would offer affordable rates despite being in the “best possible airport location”.

Gatwick real estate head Emma Rees said in a statement that the multi-million pound development was “fantastic news” and that would help to satisfy passengers’ growing need for more hotel options. She added that the move was the latest example of the airport’s commitment to finding ways to improve travellers’ experience at Gatwick.

The facility is set to open in summer of 2013, according to reports. Bloc officials said that it will also feature top-quality soundproofing, Egyptian cotton linens, Samsung electronics and smart ambient lighting.
