IHG announces Holiday Inn Express expansion effort in India

Hotel giant InterContinental Hotels Group (IAG) is to open several new Holiday Inn Express properties in India.

Reports said at the weekend that the UK-based firm is to launch 18 new Holiday Inn Express hotels in key Indian cities. The move is a joint effort with Duet Hotels and is part of the IHG’s plan to capitalise one of the world’s fastest growing hotel markets.

The announcement came following the launch of the first Holiday Inn Express property in India; the 173-room hotel is situated in one of the city’s most up-and-coming shopping neighbourhoods. Officials said in press release that the property aims to provide a perfect combination of convenience and price.

Ranganath Budumooru, general manager of the Holiday Inn Express Ahmedabad, said in the release that the brand offers travellers all of the necessities without unnecessary frills. He added that the property caters to the growing number of travellers who are conscious of value for money but prefer not to compromise on quality.

There are currently more than 2,100 Holiday Inn Express properties around the world, with 37 located in Asia-Pacific; However, IHG has said the number is set to climb to 100 within the next several years.
