Hotel conglomerate InterContinental Hotels Group has opened a new flagship brand property in London.

The new hotel, the InterContinental London Westminster, is the first property launched in the capital under InterContinental brand name in 36 years. Officials said it offers more than 250 bedrooms and employs a workforce of more than 180 employees.

The property joins IHG’s existing InterContinental Hotel on Park Lane and is the latest step in the company’s ambitious £150 million UK expansion effort.

General manager Andrew Coney, who oversaw the property’s design, told the media that he was “delighted” to be a part of the new facility. He said that Westminster had been “calling out” for an InterContinental property and that the hotel would be a centrepiece of the regeneration of the area.

The property features the Blue Bar Smokehouse & Restaurant, which aims to combine traditional British favourites with American pit-master barbecue items under the oversight of head chef Jon Ingram. Meanwhile, customers can enjoy fresh cocktails at Emmeline’s, a smooth cocktail bar bearing the namesake of political icon Emmeline Pankhurst.
