Hotel giant InterContinental Hotels (IHG) Group is to open a new flagship brand property in the Indonesian capital.

According to a press release issued last week, the InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah Hotel & Residences will feature some 300 guest rooms and 180 serviced residences in the city’s renowned Pondok Indah district. It will be the UK-based hotelier’s first-ever mixed-use property in the Southeast Asian country and is slated to open in 2015.

The project comes in cooperation with managing firm PT Pondok Indah Hotel, a subsidiary of PT Metropolitan Kentjana Tbk.

Jan Smits, IHG’s chief executive for Asia, the Middle East and Africa, told the media that the InterContinental Jakarta Pondok Indah Hotel & Residences is a “perfect” addition to the brand’s portfolio and is a key property in the company’s ongoing Asia expansion effort. He went on to add that Indonesia is a primary target for development because of the country’s impressive infrastructure development and economic growth in recent years.

In addition, IHG has also announced that it will open another InterContinental property in Indonesia in 2015, the InterContinental Bali Canggu Resort.
