Hotel conglomerate Starwood Hotels & Resorts is to expand the firm’s luxury presence in Greece.

The news comes via a press release issued on Thursday, in which Starwood officials said that Athens’ famed King George Hotel will become the latest addition to the Starwood Luxury Collection of Hotels & Resorts.

The move comes in collaboration with regional hotel firm Lampsa Hellenic Hotels S.A, officials from which said that the King George property will re-launch in the Greek capital on 1 June.

The opening will mark a significant milestone amid the company’s efforts to have 90 Greek hotels in operation by 2016, according to the release.

Situated at Syntagma Square in Athens’ renowned golden quarter, the King George Hotel first opened its doors in the mid 1930s and boasts a stunning neoclassical façade. The property features 24 luxury suites and 78 deluxe guestrooms, in addition to a business centre and a health club, as well as the renowned Tudor Hall restaurant, a landmark eatery in the neighbourhood.
