Heathrow Airport’s revamped Terminal 2 is about to see the opening of a new Heston Blumenthal restaurant which will ‘celebrate ‘Britain’s favourite dishes. The aim is to offer the projected 20 million passengers the option to dine in a relaxed atmosphere as they pass through the Queen’s Terminal with some upmarket fast food. The award winning chef’s ‘The Perfectionists’ Café’ will be open, from June 4th. He hopes to offer travellers something a little different by way of a more nostalgic experience that might feel a bit less like being herded like cattle through a feeding station.

The terminal has been closed since 2009 and will re-open with 62 shops and restaurants . The café will be located airside and offer some of the UK’s favourite dishes such as fish & chips, pizzas, which will be cooked in a wood burner at the terminal and burger and chips.

Heston had this to say: 'The demands of an airport outlet are quite different from our other restaurants. Some guests will have very little time to spend with us and others, in transit or with longer check-ins, will have time to linger. ‘The restaurant will of course cater to both, but we want to deliver food that is fun and familiar – food that is stimulating to the palate and at the same time easy to enjoy.'

The burgers will be made by grinding all the grains in the same direction 'to maximise the juiciness of the meat'. Traditional fish and chips will be served with the 'ultimate crunchy batter', and pizzas will be cooked in the first wood-burning oven in an airport.
