A new 3G wireless internet application for hotel reservations has been developed.

The mobile technology, which is awaiting approval for use by Chinese-firm China Mobile, could revolutionise the way that airport hotel bookings are made in the future.

The service will provide tourists with access to hotel reservation systems, allowing them to review prices online for a number of hotels.

Once a selection has been made, customers can then book using their mobile phones and a confirmation will be sent via a short and convenient text message.

Hidy Cheng, general manager at developers Cnnest, spoke of the firm's excitement at the new product.

"This application has the potential to generate substantial revenue for us. Our cutting edge technology is the first one in the market place," she said.

Cnnest expects to launch more mobile internet applications based on 3G wireless technology in the near future, and the technology will hopefully one day be available for use in the UK.

The service could be of particular interest to business travellers, wishing to make airport hotel reservations in advance.
