Online bookings on Hilton's websites have more than doubled in the first half of 2005 compared to a year ago, rising by 62 per cent, the hotel chain has announced.

The company said that online revenues now represented about six per cent of its total revenue.

Hilton offers an array of airport accommodation around the country, and this too can be booked online.

With the surge in online bookings, it seems that pre-booking an airport room has been deemed by consumers as an easy and time-saving way of reserving accommodation.

The company believes that 2006 will be a good year, and it has said it plans on expanding its online services, which is excellent news for online bookers.

A Hilton official told travelmole.com: 'We will continue to develop our websites in order to improve upon both content and functionality.'

At the moment Hilton is selling a number of its hotels in the UK. So far seven have been sold and another 18 are on the market.
