Britain's airports are as popular than ever, it seems, as Britain's leading airport operator BAA today announced a rise in August passenger numbers.

The figures are in spite of fears that the British Airways' catering dispute and the London terror attacks would have repercussions on numbers.

BAA's airports include Heathrow, Gatwick, Stanstead, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Aberdeen and Southampton, and together they carried 14.3 million passengers this month.

All of BAA's airports boast extensive customer facilities including top-of-the-range hotel accommodation, ample car parking, and an array of shops and services. Airport accommodation is easily pre-booked online and will guarantee guests a room, avoiding disappointment.

The 0.5 per cent year-on-year rise applied to all airports except Heathrow, where traffic fell by three per cent.

The number of takeoffs and landings were up by four per cent from last year, with BAA's airports handling 0.1 per cent more freight.
