Nottingham East Midlands Airport (NEMA) has announced that it expects to welcome over 140,000 passengers this Christmas and new year.

Recently voted Best UK Airport 2005, NEMA says that it is particularly bracing itself for Thursday 22nd and Friday 23rd December, as these look set to be the busiest days of the season.

The 140,000 passenger figure accounts for all travel between 20th December 2005 and 6th January 2006, although NEMA says the Christmas rush will begin tomorrow, as travellers try and reach friends and family for the big day.

Caroline Plant, NEMA general manager sales and marketing said: 'We are expecting to be very busy over the next two weeks as people go to visit family and friends or take a short break. The winter sun is always very attractive and of course the various ski resorts served by NEMA are always popular.

'We're looking forward to 2006 now and are pleased to be able to offer over 95 destinations throughout Europe, the Caribbean, North America and Mexico for people across the region.'

If you are travelling around this festive period, make sure you have booked your airport hotel accommodation in advance.

With such high numbers of passengers anticipated, airport hotels may become fully booked and you may be disappointed.
