Last week work started building a new Ramada Encore Hotel at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield.

The 103 bed hotel is being developed at a cost of £7 million by Irwins. Located only 400 metres from the terminal building, next to an airport parking lot, the hotel should be ready to open for business in the summer of 2008.

According to the President and CEO of Wyndham Hotel Group which owns the Ramada brand franchise, the new hotel 'demonstrates the flexibility of the Ramada Encore brand, which is suited equally to an airport location as it is to a city centre.

'The Ramada Encore concept targets young and young-at-heart business and leisure travellers who want fresh, comfortable accommodations with state-of-the art amenities and services including wireless Internet and flat-screen entertainment centres.'

Although there is a well established network of hotels in the area, the Ramada will be the first hotel to open on the airport grounds themselves.

David Ryall, Managing Director at Robin Hood Airport Doncaster Sheffield said: 'This is a further enhancement to the Airport's ever increasing offer. The opening in 2008 of the first on site hotel will provide a useful base for both inbound tourists to the airport region, as well as a useful facility for the ever increasing number of UK originating passengers, having travelled as far a field as Scotland and the West.'
