Brisbane has high hopes for the first on-airport hotel in Queensland, Australia, as work started this week on the development. British travellers heading Down Under next year will be able to enjoy overnight accommodation at a 4-star property

before flying home or upon arrival.

The project is located at Number 1 Airport Drive and is expected to both alleviate the hotel room shortage in Brisbane and contribute to the creation of Brisbane’s Airport City.

Kenlynn Properties Australia Pty Ltd is a Brisbane-based group responsible for the construction, development and operation of the $20 billion hotel which is scheduled to open late next year.

The hotel will offer 155 rooms, a wine bar, and a restaurant, as well as conference facilities, meeting rooms, a gymnasium and a pool.

Chairman of Kenlynn Properties, Peter Flynn, said: “The opportunity to build a quality hotel to service the country's fastest growing airport was one we just couldn't miss.”

The general manger for commercial services at Brisbane Airport Corporation, Gert-Jan de Graff said that the area of the airport hotel development was becoming a promising alternative to the usual inner city and suburban office and technology parks.

“Number 1 Airport Drive is truly the heart of the booming Australia TradeCoast precinct and is rapidly becoming the town centre of Brisbane's Airport City, generating sustainable, long-term growth opportunities for Queensland's exciting aviation, tourism and related industries,” he said.

According to the BAC, another hotel may be possible in the precinct of the Domestic Terminal in the future.
