Globus released the results of a recent study regarding trends for the coming year, involving research conducted with many travelers around the world, according to the vice president of marketing for the travel company, Steve Born.

The popularity of river cruising is an offshoot of cruise travelers who are looking for different kinds of experiences. Avalon Waterways, a Globus brand, saw its best ever year for Egypt in 2008, representing part of the double-digit growth that the parent company is anticipating will continue in 2009.

Better airfares and the strength of the US dollar have stimulated new demand in travel to Europe. Globus has noted a strong level of early interest in ‘classic’ destinations in Western Europe, including Ireland, Britain, France and Italy, and in emerging Eastern European destinations.

As the traditional peak travel season winds down, Globus is also noting that more travelers are taking advantage of off-peak pricing on travel to Europe.

Along with the renewed interest in European destinations, Globus reports that it is experiencing annual growth of 30 percent the South America sector.
