Pan-Pacific Kuala Lumpur voted the World’s Leading Airport

Malaysia starred at the World Travel Awards 2009, held over the weekend at London’s Grosvenor House.

In the awards that are commonly referred to as the “Oscars” of the travel industry, Malaysia’s Pan-Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport Hotel took the World’s Leading Airport Hotel accolade, its second in as many years. The hotel also bagged the Asia’s Leading Airport Hotel crown.

Resort World Genting also came away with top honours, with the World’s Leading Casino Resort title under its belt for an impressive fourth year. The Malaysian casino giant beat contenders like the Caesar’s Palace and The Venetian in Las Vegas and Macau respectively, to retain the honour.

Resort World genting also scooped the two other accolades: Asia’s Leading Family Resort and Asia’s Leading Casino Resort.

Datuk Lee Choong Yan, chief operating officer for Genting Malaysia Berhard accepted the awards for Genting, while Sheila Ainscough, Pan Pacific Hotels group’s global sales manager for UK & Ireland accepted the award for Pan-Pacific Kuala Lumpur International Airport Hotel.

Datuk Lee dedicated the award to the hotel chain’s 13,000 employees, who he said work tirelessly to serve their 19 million annual visitors. He stressed that it was an honour to be recognized by the global travel industry, and that the award reiterates the reputation enjoyed by the hotel, for being a prestigious brand in Asia.

The world Travel Awards are considered the highest recognition in the travel industry globally. Hundreds of categories are voted for by travel professionals from all over the world, covering over 160 countries.
