Singapore tops 2010 Business Traveller Awards

Singapore has topped many categories in the 2010 Business Traveller Awards. The awards, considered by many to be a benchmark for excellence in the business travel market, are chosen by readers of Business Traveller magazine. This year, readers said Singapore provided the best comfort, style and value in many key categories.

The awards were presented on 20 September at a luncheon ceremony in the ballroom of the Kensington Royal Garden Hotel in London. Singapore Airlines won three awards – for Best Airline, Best Economy Class and Best Business Class. Best First Class was awarded to Emirates. Best Premium Economy Class went to Virgin Atlantic. British Airways snagged both Best Short-Haul Carrier and Best Frequent Flyer Programme.

Meanwhile, Changi Airport in Singapore was again voted Best Airport in the World. Changi remains unbeaten for this award. Best Airport in Europe was won by Schiphol Airport in Amsterdam. For the second consecutive year, Heathrow Airport in the UK was voted the Best Airport for Tax-Free Shopping.

Hilton Hotels and Resorts was awarded with two merits – Best Business Hotel Chain in the UK and Europe, and Best Business Hotel Chain Worldwide. Marriot was voted the Best Business Hotel Chain in North America. The Middle East version of the award was presented to Jumeirah, which has now won the plaudit six years in a row. Shangri-La Hotels and Resorts maintained its winning streak in the Asia-Pacific region with a sixteenth consecutive win.
