Singapore, Emirates and Cathay Pacific named best carriers

Singapore Airlines, Cathay Pacific and Emirates have been named the best international airlines in the world in the latest airline survey from Zagat. The voting by 8,000 frequent fliers, was based on some 140,000 flights taken over the last year.

Voters named Singapore Airlines as offering the best premium class services as well as the best economy class. Second place in the business class category was shared by Emirates, Qatar and Cathay Pacific. Air New Zealand was a close third.

In the economy class category, Emirates tied with Air New Zealand for second place, followed by ANA and Cathay Pacific. Virgin Atlantic was the award for best International in-flight entertainment.

In the survey, participants were asked to rank airlines along a 30-point scale covering service, comfort and food, as well as the quality of the airline’s web site. The survey also rated carriers on punctuality, check-in, baggage policy and in-flight entertainment.

Emirates, Singapore Airlines and Cathay Pacific all performed better on the 30-point ranking system than any domestic US airline. The three enjoyed scores of 28 out of 30 and 26 out of 30. Virgin America managed 24 out of 30 for its domestic business class and 21 out of 30 for its economy class.
