Premier Inn hotel chain owner Whitbread has signed deals to create two new hotels for London’s biggest airports. The deal with Arora Family Trust will see the two hotels offer 1,030 rooms split between Gatwick and Heathrow airports.

Companies under the Arora Family Trust umbrella will lease the hotels to Premier Inn. Both hotels will be built as ‘turn-key’ packages and funding for both projects has already been secured by Arora Family Trust.

At Heathrow, development has already begun at a site near Terminal 5. The 400-seat Premier Inn is being funded by Aviva and is slated to launch within 18 months. Another Premier Inn is scheduled to launch within two years at Gatwick Airport’s North Terminal.

Funding for the Gatwick hotel is coming from Prupim. With 630 rooms, this will be the biggest hotel in Premier Inn’s portfolio.

The announcement further strengthens Premier Inn’s position as the biggest operator of airport hotels in Britain. The latest hotels are part of Whitbread’s strategy to expand Premier Inn’s portfolio to a total of 55,000 rooms throughout the UK.

Derek Griffin is head of Acquisitions in Greater London for Whitbread Hotels and Restaurants. He says the two hotels deals, with funding in place, demonstrate the the attractiveness of investing in Premier Inn.

He added that the success of low-cost carriers shows the rising demand for budget air travel, which includes accommodation. Premier Inn is in a strong position to benefit from this.
