Twenty-eight-year-old Benjamin Harper of Twickenham in southwest London reportedly fell from his guestroom’s balcony at the Sol Antillas near the town of Magaluf in Majorca late on Friday.

Authorities believe Mr Harper had stepped out onto the balcony to have a cigarette and leaned too far over the rail. His father, 64-year-old Kenneth Harper, said to news reporters that no foul play was suspected and that his son’s friends were very “cut up about it”.

A spokesman said on behalf of the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) that it was aware of the ordeal and was providing assistance to the Harper family.

Sol Antillas hotel has not yet issued a statement.

Tributes to Harper on social networking websites said that he was “full of energy”. One friend described him as being a “lovely bloke” with character.

Mr Harper is the second Briton to die at the same resort in just a few days time. Adam Atkinson of Castleford, West Yorkshire died after a stair fall at the property on Friday.
