One of UK’s biggest hotel firms has launched a new base in Singapore.

The company said in a press release issued last week that the Asia-Pacific hub would be the launch pad for “evaluating” expansion opportunities in the East Asian region. The news follows the opening of two similar hubs in recent months, one in Dubai and one in New Delhi.

Erik van Keulen, Premier Inn’s senior vice president for development in Asia-Pacific, said in a statement that the firm was excited to bring its “value-for-money experience” and UK success to the region. Mr van Keulen, who will be managing the Singapore office, went on to add that the brand understands challenges amid growth efforts in the hotel industry, thanks to having grown into one of the world’s biggest hoteliers over a 25-year period.

The news comes as the budget travel industry continues to boom in Asia as a result of economic success as well as the launch of low-cost carriers such as AirAsia, JetStar and Tiger Airways, which experts say allow many people to travel more often or even for the first time.

Premier Inn noted in the press release that it was recently recognised as the 2010 and 2011 World's Best Budget Hotel Brand via the World Travel Awards.
