The chief executive of Rezidor Hotel Group has announced that he is to retire at the end of 2012.

Kurt Ritter, who has been the head official for the Radisson and Park Inn owner since 1989, is to be replaced in January by the firm’s current chief operating officer and executive vice president, Wolfgang Neumann, according to a statement issued this week.

Mr Ritter said to media that he was fortunate to have been able to live his dream, noting that being a hotelier was something that he had always wanted to do. He went on to add that he was able to negotiate exciting advancements for the company and meet “inspiring” individuals over his 35-year run.

Carlson Rezidor is the parent firm and operator of six global hotel brands, which include Radisson, Radisson Blu, Hotel Missoni, Park Plaza and Country Inns & Suites by Carlson.

Late in Mr Ritter’s career, Rezidor joined forces with Carlson, becoming Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group. The conglomerate’s chief executive Trudy Rautio said in a statement that Ritter was one of the “great leaders” for the hotel industry.

Similarly, Mr Neumann said that he was “honoured” to succeed Ritter and that he was looking ahead to the firm’s “ambitious” strategy, dubbed Route 2015.
