Global hotel conglomerate IHG has announced that it is to launch the first EVEN brand property in the Big Apple.

Officials from UK-based InterContinental Hotels Group Plc confirmed on Wednesday that the company was amid plans for EVEN to make first appearance in New York at 219 E 44th Street.

The hotel will feature 230 guestrooms and will be owned by CWC Inc and will be fully managed by InterContinental Hotels. It is slated to open in the latter half of 2014, according to reports.

EVEN is IHG’s response to a recent survey that exposed a lucrative new market segment for hoteliers – travellers that want to stay fit whilst adhering to a busy travel schedule on a reasonable budget. The company aims to launch some 100 properties in the US market over the next half-decade, with other initial installments to launch in San Francisco and Washington DC.

IHG’s president for US operations Kirk Kinsell told reporters on Wednesday that New York City is a centrepiece for the brand’s distribution strategy and that the company was excited to announce the initial EVEN partnership with investment firm CWC Inc.

The news comes despite figures released the same day that revealed a third-quarter slowdown for IHG properties in the US, as the company’s RevPAR dropped to 6.3 per cent. Officials blamed seasonal effects and the placement of several major holidays over the period.
