A leading US travel publication has named Jumeirah the as the Hotel Chain of the Year.

The recognition comes via Global Traveler, which announced on Monday that the Dubai Holding-owned firm had earned the year’s top honour among a group of 26 contenders. Winners were chosen via a panel of the magazine’s employees as well as a select group of members from the company’s Advisory Board.

Readers of the magazine reportedly spend more than 100 nights in hotel rooms each year and travel in business class on a regular basis.

Officials from Jumeirah Group said in a press release that the honour comes amid a major expansion effort that has seen the company more than double its number of hotel properties around the globe since January of 2011. Major openings have recently taken place in Istanbul, London and Mallorca, and the company has several forthcoming property launches in the Middle East.

Over the last year, Jumeirah has also opened a number of new hotels in Asia, with notable examples in Shanghai and in the Maldives.

Jumeirah Group officials will accept the award at an official ceremony in Los Angeles on 12 December at The Peninsula Beverly Hills.
