Low-cost hotel chain Premier Inn has announced its newest brand name: Hub.

According to a report published by The London Evening Standard this week, Hub by Premier Inn will entail smaller hotels situated in major city centres. Officials from the company said that the brand will target travellers that value convenience, design and price over space, as the bedrooms in the new property will measure only about 11.4 metres in size.

Premier Inn’s parent firm Whitbread said that the first Hub properties will launch operations next year, with the initial hotel opening in Convent Garden on St Martin’s Lane in the autumn.

The move comes following a successful trial of the Hub rooms at King’s Cross, according to the report. Whitbread executives expect the properties will see a 25 per cent reduction in operating costs from standard Premier Inns due to the reduced facility sizes.

All Hub bedrooms will feature a folding desk that can be stowed under the bed, in addition to custom luggage storage.
