New long haul routes from Gatwick

New transatlantic routes will be available from Gatwick next summer. The low cost airline Norwegian, has announced that it will offer flights from from Gatwick to New York, Los Angeles and Fort Lauderdale in Florida as early as July 2014.

The airfares will start at under £150 and will offer three flights a week to New York with a one way fare costing as little at £149 one way with the cost of fares to Los Angeles starting at £199 one way on its twice weekly flights.

Flights to Fort Lauderdale flights will begin in July and will have an introductory fare of £179 for a one way ticket. The US flights will be on the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

Along with the long haul flights, there will also be five new European destinations of offer -Budapest, Cyprus, Sicily as well as Santorini and Corfu.

The chief executive of Norwegian Bjorn Kjos said: ‘There's great demand for high-quality flights at a low fare between the UK and the US, particularly to and from Gatwick. ‘We are looking forward to welcoming many new customers on board our brand new aircraft. ‘He added: ‘Launching long-haul routes between London Gatwick and the United States is also an important part of our strategy to expand internationally and get a stronger foothold in markets outside Scandinavia.’
